Magyk by A. Sage

This is such a good book!

An old favourite I decided to reread for this blog, Magyk follows the story of the Heap family, specifically the little baby Silas finds in a snowbank. This young child finds out on her tenth birthday she is actually the murdered queens daughter and goes on a frantic escape journey to evade her would be assassins. The authors writing style is unique in that it often changes perspectives (staying within the all knowing narrator voice) to other side characters in the story, often insignificant ones. It reminds me of a child asking questions about details in the story to the parent reading, forcing the parent to make up details. But already included! It also features a chapter at the end dedicated to wrapping up any questions or lose ends about side characters.

While this story revolves around Jenna, the series (and truly the book in a roundabout way) is actually the story of Septemus Heap; the seventh son of a seventh son who has great magical powers! A lovely addition to any classroom library.

An easy read this book would be suited for the grade 4-6 level. Overall gets a 4/5 from me!
